Kanako Noda
Born 1980 in Kitakyushu, Japan. After graduating in cultural anthropology at Osaka University (Japan), Kanako Noda studied Art in Italy. Enrolling in the Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna, she studied paintings under contemporary Italian artists. Soon after the graduation from Accademia, she moved to Canada. Now she lives and works in Montreal.
“My art work sets out to explore the potentiality of place and space. Through site-specific works, I create a series of constantly shifting and unexpected visual experiences using a sparse visual vocabulary. Limiting the range of elements that go to make up each piece allows for a kind of structured improvisation, something like a visual jazz that, within the logic implied by its self-imposed rules, frees the elements to dance sensuously through their spaces. My goal is to configure the work not as an intervention of its space, but rather as an imaginative dialogue with the place it inhabits.”
